Growing season length (GSL)
Growing season length (GSL): annual count of days between the first span of at least 6 days with daily mean temperature greater than 5 ºC (TM > 5 °C) and the first span, after July 1st, of 6 days with TM less than 5 °C (TM < 5 ºC), or year-end if this does not occur. The unit of measurement is “days”.
The evolution of GSL anomaly (AGSL, difference between the annual value of GSL and the mean value of GSL in the reference period 1981-2010) during the period 1959-2020 is shown for the Pyrenees and for 4 areas of the Massif (Northern Pyrenees, Southern Pyrenees, Mediterranean Pyrenees and Atlantic Pyrenees); for each of the 12 series analyzed, the evolution of GSL index is shown.
The annual mean of GSL for the Pyrenees is obtained from the annual GSL values of 12 representative series of the Pyrenees massif (areas at different altitudes and on all slopes: north, south, east or Mediterranean and west or Atlantic), while the mean value of GSL for the 4 zones of the Massif is obtained from the annual GSL values of the representative series located in each zone.
