Ice volume in ice cave

This indicator provides information about the estimate of the ice volume decrease during last decades in ice caves of the Pyrenees. The unit of measurement is cubic meter (m³).

Specifically, the ice cave A294 is located in the Cotiella massif (Aragon) at an altitude of 2238 m. The estimation of ice volume decrease in this cave during the last 50 years (from 1974 to the present) has been carried out from the speleological topographies of the years 1974, 2012 and 2019, from specific measurements with a laser distance meter and from the comparison of photographs of the interior of the cave.

The evolution of ice volume in cave A294 for the period 1974-2019 is shown. This indicator is not regularly updated, but in specific observation campaigns the ice volume in the cave is monitored.
